The Drive Behind Albatross Marketing

Albatross Marketing was born from a place of deep love and passion, a natural convergence of two lifelong obsessions: the game of golf and the art of marketing. For me, the fairway feels like home, a place where strategy and precision are paramount. That same dedication has fueled over 15 years of B2C marketing experience, building brands and driving growth across diverse industries.

This unique combination, blending a profound understanding of golf's heart with a proven track record in marketing, sparked the idea for Albatross Marketing. The name itself is a nod to my Grandpa's 1960s Golflands course in Richmond, BC, and his frequent mentions of the 'Almighty Albatross' – a truly rare and exceptional feat in golf. Here, we aim to achieve similarly "unattainable" results for our clients, transforming marketing challenges into remarkable successes.

Meet Laurena Pollock - Founder

Raised on the Fairway. Built for the Long Game.

My personal journey, one deeply intertwined with the rhythm and strategy of golf, began on a sunlit fairway in Richmond, BC. My grandfather, who ran a public golf course called Golflands in the 1960s, put my first club in my hand at the age of three. From that moment on, the game became part of my DNA — its patience, its pursuit of precision, and the understanding that success in golf (and in life) is about consistency, curiosity, and commitment.

I grew up walking fairways, watching families connect over nine holes, and learning that success in golf — and in life — is about consistency, curiosity, and commitment. I’ve carried those same principles into my 15-year career in marketing, where I’ve built brands, driven growth, and led B2C marketing strategies across retail, franchise, and consumer goods spaces. Most notably, I led the commercial planning for the Prairies with Sleeman Breweries and managed full-scope marketing operations for a casual dining franchise with 80+ locations across Canada. Now, I operate as a freelance marketing strategist.

And yes, I know my way around a clubhouse menu. My experience in the hospitality and restaurant industry means I understand not just how to market a course — but how to position the full guest experience, from tee-off to last call on the patio. My passion lies in the customer experience, from the first moment they interact with your brand online to when they pay their tab in the clubhouse after finishing their round.

Albatross Marketing is where those two legacies meet — the heritage of golf and the craftsmanship of marketing. My approach is rooted in strategy but guided by instinct. I'm passionate about helping public courses thrive in a digital world by making marketing feel less like a bunker and more like a birdie.

If you’re looking for a partner who gets the industry, gets results, and gets what it means to build something meaningful — I’d love to talk.
